TMC Worker Died In Explosion

Baharampur: A Trinamool worker died and both hands of a panchayat samiti candidate of the party were almost blown off in a blast in Murshidabad’s Rejinagar on Wednesday mid-night.

Residents of Nazirpur village were woken up by a deafening explosion at the house of Trinamool’s panchayat samiti candidate, Zahiruddin Mollah, around 12.30am on Thursday.
“Zahiruddin and Trinamool worker Iqbal Sheikh were lying in a pool of blood. There was another worker Yaar Ali Sheikh also,” said a neighbour.

Police said Yaar Ali Sheikh had been declared dead at Rejinagar health centre. A doctor said Zahiruddin’s both hands had almost been severed. Iqbal received injuries to the eyes.
Shoma Bauri, a CPM candidate for Ballavpur gram panchayat in Raniganj, allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming sleeping pills at her home on Thursday afternoon.

The CPM said she had tried to kill herself as Trinamool was pressuring her to withdraw the nomination. Trinamool has denied the charge.
