East Midnapore: The deputy head of a Trinamool-ruled panchayat has been killed in a clash between fishermen and farmers at Bhagawanpur in East Midnapore district on Saturday.
The clash, which started this morning at Bhagawanpur’s Mubarakpur village, has also left three persons injured and they are now admitted to Tamluk District Hospital.
The deceased Trinamool deputy head has been identified as Nantu Pradhan. To facilitate prawn cultivation, he had was allegedly draining in saline water Panjar Khal canal that provides irrigation to farmers of 11 villages lying under Gurgram and Muhammadpur gram panchayats.
a group of fishermen from Pradhan’s camp attacked a farmer’s house last night. The farmers retaliated today morning, leading to a massive clash between the two groups. The Trinamool upa-pradhan died in the clash.
