TMC MPs Stage Protest In Parliament Over Lynching Issue

New Delhi: All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs staged a protest on Tuesday in
front of the Gandhi statue in Parliament over incidents of lynching.

With banners in hand, almost all MPs were present in the protest. “Stop mob
lynching” was the message written in the banners. The protest was staged in demand
for a strict law to curb the menace of mob-lynching in the country.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, on Martyrs’ day, had criticised the
Modi government for its failure to tackle the problem of lynching in the country.
She also termed it as the ‘murder of democracy.’

The central government is in pressure with central ministers also criticising the
increasing incidents of mob-lynching. State minister for home affairs, Kiren Rijiju
also criticised it harshly.

In most of the cases, cow-protection has been the issue. Apart from this, lynchings
also occured over suspicion of child-lifters. A mentally-disbalanced woman was
lynched and killed in Madhya Pradesh in suspicion over child-lifter.
