TMC MP Sudip Banerjee Granted Bail In Rose Valley Scam

Bhubaneshwar: The Odisha Court has granted Sudip Banerjee has bail on the bail bond of 25 lakhs of rupees and with the other condition of submitting his passport to the court.

The MP would also not be allowed to go to any foreign land. He was granted bail on medical grounds. He will released tomorrow, that is, on Saturday, but the CBI will appeal against this decision in the Supreme Court.

The court rejected CBI’s petition against Sudip Banerjee for influencing people. He needs to submit his passport to the officer investigating the Rose Valley issue. He cannot even influence or intimidate witnesses or the investigation.

TMC parliamentary party leader in the Lok Sabha was arrested in January this year by CBI in connection with the alleged Rose Valley chit fund scam. Bandopadhyay was granted bail on the health ground.

The TMC MP had been summoned multiple times by the investigation agency before he was arrested.

His arrest in the alleged Rose Valley scam came close on the heels of the arrest of another Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal. Pal, an actor-turned politician, is now in the CBI custody in Bhubaneshwar.

Following his arrest, Bandyopadhyay had accused BJP of being behind the recent CBI arrests of TMC leaders in West Bengal over chit fund scam “BJP is doing this (arrests of TMC leaders) aiming to finish Mamata Banerjee and TMC in West Bengal,” Sudip had said.

While remanded in judicial custody, the 63-year-old leader fell sick for an ailment he was suffering for last two years. Sudip was stated to be suffering from pancreas and heart ailments.
