Kolkata: The former railway minister will also be part of senior BJP leader and former minister Yashwant Sinha’s ‘Rashtriya Manch’ in New Delhi on January 30 that aims to provide a forum across political lines to debate on issues that the opposition wants to knock on.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday also paid tribute to Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray on his birth anniversary. She had met Sena president Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya in Mumbai in November.

Trinamool’s participation in the back-to-back events in the run-up to Parliament’s budget session is being seen as an attempt to forge a larger coalition among non-BJP parties. Bengal’s ruling Trinamool, among the most vocal opponents of the BJP-ruled Centre, is keen to step up its heat against the government as the state slips into election mode with panchayat polls scheduled in early 2018 and Lok Sabha polls in 2019.

According to Trinamool sources, the Pawar rally resonated with what the CM had said about the unprecedented crisis in the Supreme Court. The January 26 rally in Mumbai seeks to protect the country’s Constitution, in the wake of the Supreme Court crisis.
