Kolkata: Suspended Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh hosted a high-tea party at his north Kolkata residence in which state BJP and Congress leaders had a tete-a-tete.
Congress leaders Somen Mitra and Arunabha Ghosh held political discussions with BJP’s Locket Chatterjee and Sayantan Basu. Though both Mitra and Ghosh denied joining BJP. This was the first meting in the state where BJP and Congress leaders met, perhaps with the aim to increase their propelling strength against Mamata Banerjee government as two Trinamool MPs, Sudip Bandopadhyay and Tapas Pal are in jail for alleged links in Rose Valley chit fund scam and a dozen Trinamool leaders are accused in Narada scam.
Kunal Ghosh was in jail for over two years for his alleged links in Saradha scam. The Modi government has placed him in a telephone committee soon after his release by high court.
Mitra who was a former Trinamool MP had resigned as MP in February 2014 and rejoined his parent party Congress, but he failed to win the MLA seat in 2016 contesting from Chowrignhee seat, as Nayana Bandopadhyay of Trinamool retained her seat. Mitra denied joining BJP and said it was a non-formal get together.
Advocate Arunabha Ghosh however said that it was thanksgiving party by Kunal Ghosh to all who had supported him while Kunal Ghosh was in jail for his alleged links in Saradha scam.
Ghosh said that he had helped Ghosh legally and added that he was not joining BJP. But said he was ready to join any launching pad which aimed to dethrone Mamata Banerjee. For that he was going with the CPM which has got manpower, while Congress is still accepted for its face value. “If something works out from this tea party it would be good,” Ghosh said.

Kunal Ghosh said that he had invited some political party leaders including AIDUF and Nationalist Trinamool Congress for the get together. It might be recalled that Ghosh was the blue eyed boy of Mamata Banerjee and was close to the CM, but as he blamed Trinamool leaders for the collapse of Saradha chit fund he was arrested, as he headed the media of Saradha group.
