Kolkata: Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) leader Madhav Marjit, who was admitted to the SSKM hospital over bullet injuries, succumbed to the injuries on Saturday and died.
Trinamool leader Madhab Marjit, who contested the assembly polls from Khargram constituency in Murshidabad was severely injured after six miscreants shot him on July 6 evening. Marjit had gone to Amjoya of Khargram for work and while coming back, he was shot at. The miscreants fled after villagers rushed to the spot. Three bullets were fired, one hit his back and the other hit his hand.
Marjit was rushed to Murshidabad Medical College. He alleged that two men Ajimal Sk and Sainal Sk was behind the attack. – Sukumar Mahato. He was later on shifted to SSKM in Kolkata.While being admitted with bullet injuries, Marjit mentioned two names – Ajimal Sk and Sainal Sk who he alleged were behind the attack. Trinamool Congress observer of the district Subhendu Adhikari said, “Since our party has found a foothold in Kandi sub-division, the opposition Congress leaders are now jittery. As a result they have made the attack.”
Ashok Das, the district spokesperson of Congress had said, “We are demanding an immediate arrest of the miscreants. TMC is making baseless allegations.”
Union development and municipal affairs minister Firhad Hakim has termed the alleged murder as ‘political murder’, on Sunday outside SSKM.
