TMC Leader Shot In Baharampur


Baharampur: A district level TMC leader was shot from a close range on Thursday in Baharampur.

The TMC leader and District Secretary, Subir Sarkar was shot in front of a polling booth allegedly by bike-borne CPM and Congress goons. They, five in number, shot him many times and from a close range. The incident took place at Saidabad in Baharampur. He was rescued and has been admitted to the Baharampur Medical College. The doctors of Baharampur Medical College have termed his condition as “critical”.

 Amid tight security began the final and sixth phase of the West Bengal Assembly Polls on Thursday. Polls in as many as 19 Assembly seats in Cooch Behar district and 16 in East Midnapore are underway. There are 170 candidates, 18 of them women, in the fray. Polling is underway in 2,476 booths in Cooch Behar and 4,298 booths in East Midnapore. The electorate numbers 58.04 lakh.
