TMC Leader Shot Dead In Howrah, Protest Continues

Howrah: Political violence continues in West Bengal with a local Trinamool Congress leader in Howrah district was shot dead my miscreants, police said today.

The incident took place last night in Bagnan area when three motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire at the deceased who was is an ex-Panchayat member.

Md Mohsin Khan, a Trinamool Congress booth level secretary in Bagnan area was returning home last night when the miscreants shot him dead at Haturia village in the district, according to reports.

Khan’s wife is a Trinamool Congress gram panchayat member. His wife had won in the recently concluded West Bengal Panchayat election 2018. Local villagers blocked the NH 6 near Haturia village for about two-hours last night demanding immediate arrest of the culprits. Locals start protesting against the gun down.

The police said they have detained three persons for questioning in connection with the case. TMC workers also blocked National Highway 6 and claimed that perpetrators were hired by local BJP leaders to eliminate the TMC leader. Local residents alleged that a few houses were ransacked and set on fire following the incident.

On Sunday night, one person was killed and a number of people were injured in a political clash between supporters of two political parties in CoochBehar district.

As per reports, the clash took place at the Jamaldaha area of the district in which one person named Ramjan Mian was killed and many people were injured on Sunday late night. The police, however, did not specify the number of injured persons.

The shocking incident comes close on the heels of two BJP supporters found hanging in Purulia district, where the BJP fared comparatively well in the panchayat election, on May 30 and June 2. Political violence and killings in West Bengal made headlines after the recently concluded panchayat elections.
