Kolkata: The Bengal Assembly election at doorstep. So, songs and music videos composed by Didi’s cultural concubines will inject a refreshing tempo in the poll campaign.
The ruling Trinamool Congress has roped in professionals, including a top Tollywood director and singers, who have composed and sung several chart-topping numbers. Mamata’s party not only released its list of candidates within an hour of the declaration of election dates on Friday, but also announced on Saturday that will unveil its campaign theme song on ‘Development in Bengal’.
The music and lyrics are by Anupam Roy and the singers are Roy, Srikanto Acharya, Somlata, Anindya Chatterjee and Pratik Choudhury. It’s almost ready for release, say sources. The theme song is being made into a music video by director Anindya Chatterjee. There will be a two-minute version for YouTube and SoundCloud and a shorter version for television and radio.
The soft-spoken Anupam said, “I am a professional songwriter and composer and have done this work (in my professional capacity). I am not part of any party; I have composed it the way I compose music for advertisements or movies. I have always been a huge fan of Derek (Derek O’ Brien, Trinamool MP and national spokesperson) since childhood. When he told me of the plan, I agreed at once. It was lovely working with Derek. Sob kichhu to takar binimoye hoy na (Not everything is done for money).”
