Kolkata: Six representatives of the 8-member delegation has returned to Kolkata on
Friday morning. Soon after returning, TMC minister Firhad Hakim lashed out at the saffron party at the Kolkata airport.
Firhad said, “BJP party is the party of rioters . Any MLA of any party in India can go to any part of India. The BJP government has stopped us from reaching out to the people undemocratically.”
The draft NRC list of Assam was published on Monday leading to chaos in the country. Names of 40 lakh people were left out from the list. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has also publictly protested against this.
A team of TMC members went to Assam to look upon the situation there. But they were
stopped at the Shilchar airport. Two MLAs Mahua Mitra and Firhad Hakin were present. Apart from them, MPs Arpita Ghosh, Mamata Bala Thakur, Kakali Ghosh Dastidar, Ratna Dey Nag, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy and Nadimul Haq were also part of the delegation.
The were not allowed to step outside the Silchar airport. They were kept under the eye of the police. A brawl took place between the police and the TMC members.
After 17 hours, they were sent back. However, Arpita Ghosh and Mamata Bala Thakur are scheduled to go to Delhi.
