Kolkata: Some part South Bengal, including the city, received moderate showers on Wednesday. Fresh information that sporadic rain can lash in next two days in some part of Bengal including Kolkata. The cyclonic circulation over north-east Bay of Bengal moved southward towards Odisha. It will continue to rain intermittently over the next 48 hours, but the chances of a heavy shower were low, said the Met office. Kolkata received 25.9mm till 5.30pm on Wednesday.
“Monsoon currents are now active across the state, including south Bengal. So, we expect normal monsoon rain but it is not going to be very heavy till Thursday. In fact, we expect the showers to slow down a bit now. This is due to the fact that the currents are now set to enter the neighbouring states of Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. Once that happens, Bengal could receive moderate rain, till the currents settle down there,” said Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) director GK Das.
The city continued to receive intermittent drizzles throughout Wednesday. Some parts of south and east Kolkata received a relatively heavy spell in the evening. But weathermen didn’t foresee a wet spell this week. “With the cyclonic circulation having already moved towards Odisha, its impact on south Bengal will now lessen,” Das said.
