Kolkata: Amidst tight security to avoid any kind of untoward incident during the Martyrs Day rally of ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) tomorrow, eight giant screens will be set up to let people watch TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee addressing the rally without facing any trouble. Around 2,500 police personnel would look after security at the venue of ‘Sahid Diwas’ rally in the Esplanade area of the city.
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), or drones, will be deployed to keep a tight vigil in the area . July 21, 1993, was a day that shook the pillars of democracy in Bengal 18-years ago, when the then Calcutta Police, under Left Front Government mercilessly opened fire and killed 13 innocent activists.
Several schools will remain closed on Friday, the managements fearing large-scale traffic disruptions because of Mamata Banerjee’s martyrs’ day (July 21) rally. Police sources said traffic disruption across the city might continue from 10am till at least 4pm.
