Three Students Drowned In Damodar River In Asansol


Asansol: Three students were reported to have drowned in the river Damodar when they went to bath. The students went to the river without informing their families.

After few days a complaint was lodged at Hirapur police station by one of the parents. During the investigation, Police found out few bicycles and school bags lying on the river bank. The parents were informed after this recovery.

Radha Krishna Mukherjee, father of the deceased Ganesh Mukherjee, identified his son’s bicycle and school bag and was shattered. Ganesh Mukherjee, student of class nine of Burnpur Shantinagar Vidalyay was the only student identified. Ganesh’s father while sitting on the banks of Damodar claimed that his son went in the morning but did not return.

The flow of Damodar is high and thus the rescue team is having a tough phase in recovery works. Fire fighters, disaster management team and divers are engaged in rescue works however there is no trace of the missing students till now.

A similar incident was recorded earlier. Four students of B.C.Roy Engineering college, Durgapur also went missing when they went to take bath in Ajay river.

Two students were washed away but one was rescued by the locals when they heard his cry for help. But one of the students is still missing and the search for him is still on.
