Bhubaneswar: In a fierce encounter police on Friday gunned down three Maoists including two women cadre in Odisha’s Malkangiri district. The encounter took place at the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border.
The cops also recovered two SLR rifles and an Insas rifle from the spot. Based on a tip-off about a Maoist meeting in the forested area near Tandiki village on the border with Chhattisgarh, a team of state police and district volunteer force (DVF) led by Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra launched an attack on the Maoists, killing three of them.
The Malkangiri belt located in the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border is long known to be a hot bed of the Mao guerillas.
