Three new commanders take charge of army

New Delhi: In a major appointment of the Indian Army, Lt General MMS Rai took over as the Vice-Chief of Army Staff while Lt. Gen Praveen Bakshi as the Chief of the Eastern Commmand and Lt. Gen PM Hariz as the chief of the training command.

Lt. General Bakshi is slated to take over the as the army chief after General Dalbir Singh Suhag retires as the army chief on December 31 next year according to the ‘seniority principle’ within the army.

If all goes well, Bakshi will be the fourth successive commander of the Eastern Command to take over as the army chief after Gen V K Singh, Bikram Singh and Dalbir Singh Suhag. Lt-Gen Rai, too, was the Eastern Command chief before he took over as the vice-chief on Saturday.
