Haldia: ‘They do not know the history of Rath. We know Lord Jagannath. At first is Balaram, then sister Subhadra and then Lord Jagannath. He is known as the God made of 206 woods. And there are 206 bones in a human body. The Jagannath of this Rath speaks of peace. They (BJP) have brought a modern bus worth Rs 1.5 crore where there will be facilities for eating, drinking, dancing, singing, AC, bathroom, toilet, where one can enjoy.”
This is how transport minister Suvendu Adhikari criticised BJP’s Rath Yatra. A rally was organised at Haldia’s Brajalalchowk by the TMC. It was attended by Suvendu Adhikari. He said, “Is this the time for Rath Yatra? Those who are taking out this Yatra, one of them said finish them, another woman said anyone falling in front of the Yatra will be crushed under its wheels. We are citizens of Midnapore and Orissa is just beside us, and we have always been with Orissa. Because TMC can bring about development by bringing together people from all religion.”
Suvendu also said, “They will not be able to do anything. We know how to maintain harmony. We show by working. We also want that more number of religious programmes are held in India, but not by fooling people.”
A 2-km march rally was held at Haldia block’s Mecheda NH 41. Everyone walked together. Apart from the minister, Haldia municipality chairman Shyamal Adak, Zila parishad official Madhurima Mondal, Anandamoy Adhikari, Haldia Panchayat Samiti president Subrata Hazra and others were present.
