These Celebs Are Missing In Action At The Lok Sabha Polls

Mumbai: Ahead of the Lok Sabha General Elections, Bollywood celebrities have been campaigning for political parties as well as asserting on social media the significance of voting. Just like other citizens who will be exercising their right to vote, filmi sitaras will step out to cast their ballots, as well. However, here are a few B-Towners who will end up skipping the electoral process.

1. Alia Bhatt

Before you wonder why the 26-year-old is not raazi to get her finger inked, it’s because she holds British citizenship after her mother Soni Razdan, who was born in Birmingham. Since Indian law does not allow dual citizenship, Alia cannot vote.

2. Kalki Koechlin

The Gully Boy actress was born in Pondicherry to French parents. Since they were devotees of Shri Aurobindo, Kalki spent a considerable part of her childhood in Auroville, Tamil Nadu. Even though she’s been working in the Indian film industry for the past decade, she continues to be a French national and hence, can’t vote.

3. Katrina Kaif

Katrina was born in Hong Kong to an English mother and even though her businessman father is of Kashmiri descent, the actress doesn’t hold an Indian but a British passport. Her family resides in the UK, and the Bharat heroine is said to be living in India on an employment visa.

4. Jacqueline Fernandez

About 10 years ago, the former Miss Sri Lanka came to India on a modelling assignment and then forayed into films. Since, much like her contemporaries, she is not a citizen of this country, and can’t participate in the electoral process.

5. Amy Jackson

Her photograph on the Miss Teen World website got Tamil producers reaching out to cast her in Madraspattinam (2010). Since then, Amy has also worked in Telugu, Kannada and Hindi films, but the 2.0 heroine is a British citizen.

6. Sunny Leone

Karenjit Kaur Vohra aka Sunny Leone has her roots in Punjab. But, she was born in Canada and holds Canadian-American citizenship. Voting will be a no-go for her, as well.

7. Imran Khan

A few years ago, the Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Naa actor tried filing a petition for reducing the age of drinking from 25 to 18, as people at that age have the right to vote.

However, turns out, not only does he not have the right to franchise but he also couldn’t file the PIL as he’s not a citizen of the country! Aamir Khan’s nephew is an American national, having been born in Wisconsin.

8. Nargis Fakhri

Eight years ago, she made her big debut opposite Gen-Now superstar Ranbir Kapoor in Rockstar. Nargis, who hasn’t been seen much in recent times, is of Pakistani origin and holds American citizenship.

9. Manisha Koirala

This Kathmandu-born beauty spent her early life in Varanasi, India, at her maternal grandmother’s home, and later in Delhi and Mumbai. Though she made the maximum city her home since her foray into films with Saudagar (1991), she remains a Nepali citizen. While her grandfather Bisweshwar Prasad Koirala was the neighbouring country’s 22nd Prime Minister, her father Prakash Koirala is a politician and has been Nepal’s Cabinet Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.

10. Deepika Padukone

Bollywood’s leading lady will give the polls a miss, too. As was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, she holds the citizenship of that country.
