Theft at Kireteshwari Temple in Murshidabad


Berhampore: Gold jewelry worth lakhs stolen from Kireteshwari Temple of Berhampore in Murshidabad early morning on Tuesday, said police. On Tuesday dawn, the priest spotted the locks of the Mandir gate broken, everything inside messed up. He also found jewelry missing from idol’s nose, ear and neck. The crown was tried to be taken. But the money box has been spotted and recovered by local residents.

Crowd was assembled in front of the temple early morning as usual, when they came to know about the theft. The security of the temple has been questioned. The locals have complained that the temple authorities never keep security arrangements even when fair sits in front of the temple. The Kireteshwari temple committee has filed a complaint at Nabagram police station.
