Kolkata: The city and its adjoining areas may witness a thunderstorm on Saturday afternoon. As a fresh cyclonic circulation may sweep through the area, South Bengal districts likely to witness a thunderstorm in the next few hours.
On last Tuesday, several parts of South Bengal including the city, witnessed a severe thunderstorm, accompanied by rain.
According to the weather expert, thunderstorm will bring the temperature further down, giving people respite from the hot and humid condition in the city in the next few days. A cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over Jharkhand and Bengal on Saturday. Small ‘cells’ or clouds could then start forming and are likely to float from the north-west towards Kolkata.
It has been learnt that a strong wind will be sweeping through the city and various parts of South Bengal districts, including East Burdwan, West Burdwan, North 24-Parganas, South 24-Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia, Murshidabad, Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram and Birbhum.
So far this year, Kolkata has had three squalls, the last being on Tuesday. Weathermen explained that the last squall turned extremely ferocious for it was a ‘supercell thunderstorm’ that had a rotating updraft known as a mesocyclone.
