Mousumi Das, Kolkata: More than twenty-four hours have been passed to the incident that created a storm on social media since Sunday. The accused Niladri Chatterjee who has allegedly thrashed an innocent street dog brutally has surrendered to Thakurpukur police on Monday evening after an FIR was filed against him. Niladri has been released on bail later today.
An animal right activist while talking to Kolkata24x7 claimed that accused Niladri Chatterjee has thrashed a dog when he was drunk on Saturday late night. Later, some locals came and rescued the dog.
Reportedly, the dog was critically injured, as per the latest information the dog is under observation at Animal Shelter cum Hospital and Research Institute (ASHARI). The members of an animal protection organization had filed a FIR at Thakurpukur police station on Sunday. On Monday evening Niladri Chatterjee has surrendered himself at Thakurpukur police station.
Kolkata24x7 has also spoken to the relatives of the accused Niladri Chatterjee, Niladri Chatterjee’s cousin Tanmoy Chatterjee said that, “The complainants Prantik Chatterjee and Mona Chaterjee are our relatives, they had personal issues with Niladri. We are saddened with the incident of the dog. It is not yet proved that Niladri has thrashed the dog. I have been receiving several abusive messages from different people. ”
He further added, “ How can anyone use somebody’s picture and write anything without any evidence on social media? This is against the law, it is a case of cyber crime. But some people have misused this incident for their benefits by harming Niladri and our family’s fame. We have submitted a joint petition at Lalbazar cyber cell.”
An animal activist who has taken the responsibility of the dog’s treatment at ASHARI said that they had contacted with Debashree Roy Foundation (DRF) and PETA. Meanwhile, they are also concern about the dog’s health and demands quick action against brutal crime against animals like this.
Big questions that has evoked are- whoever has thrashed the dog will the person be traced ? Will the innocent life get justice? When will our society be truly compassionate and sensitive regarding the abandoned animals? When will be our system have stringent punishment for the culprits who makes the innocent animals the prey of their aggression?
