Dhaka: Police said the shooting at the mosque in Haripur on Thursday killed one and three others injured. The wounded included the mosque’s imam Shahinul Islam, Bogra Superintendent of Police Arifur Rahman Mandal told.
Locals said the attack took place during the Maghrib prayers on Thursday. Muezzin Moazzem Ali was taken to the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital with bullet injuries.
Ali later died in hospital, Dr Jahidul Islam told. The assailants could not be immediately identified and the motive remained unclear.
Earlier, explosions in a gathering of Shia Muslims in Old Dhaka’s Hossaini Dalan during Ashura on Oct 24 left one dead and more than 100 injured.
Hardliner Islamic State had reportedly admitted the attack.The government and law-enforcing agencies have consistently denied the Middle East group’s presence in Bangladesh.
