Terror Strike Foiled in Kamakhya Temple, IED Recovered

Guwahati: Police foiled a major terror strike in world famous Kamakhya temple in Assam, by recovering an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from the temple vicinity on Friday night.

Cops following a confession made by arrested ULFA (S) cadre Deepak Rabha, conducted a search at the temple and recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing 1 kg.

The IED has been taken to a safe place and disposed by the bomb squad. Security has been tightened in the following following the incident. Lakhs of tourists are thronging the temple as ‘Ombubachi Mela’ is going on.

As per the new security guidelines, the tourists and devotees have to register their attendance in the temple from on. No people will be allowed to stay in the temple for more than two hours.

The holy Kamakhya temple has been named in the list of probable terror strikes following an alert by the intelligence agencies earlier. The recovery of the IED has materialized the threat.
