Srinagar: Terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has nominated its new chief for the Kashmir Valley, weeks after its operational commander Abu Qasim was killed.

The outfit has replaced Abu Qasim, killed on October 29, by Abu Musa alias Hafiz in Kashmir, LeT spokesman Dr Abdullah Ghaznavi said in a statement.

“All militants have been directed to obey him,” he said.

Meanwhile, a youth was arrested in south Kashmir on Tuesday when he tried to snatch a weapon from RailwayProtection Force (RPF).

The bid to snatch the weapon was made in Anantnag when the train coming from Banihal halted there. “A Railway Protection Force man came under attack with a sharp-edged weapon,” said a police official.

The attacker also sprayed chilli powder at the cop, who received injuries in the head. “The assailant was overpowered by other security men near the railway track when he tried to flee with the service rifle of the injured security man,” said a railway official.

The arrested youth was identified as Tariq Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Asthan Mohalla Redwani. Tinku Pachhawa, the injured cop from the 3rd Battalion RPF, is a resident of Agra.
