Kolkata: State finance secretary H K Dwivedi sanctioned the DMs of tea growing districts to accept money transfer from the garden owners for paying wages considering the cash crunch. The note overhaul affected disbursing of wages in the tea gardens, for which Mamata Banerjee had criticised Narendra Modi last week.
“The tea garden owners will deposit money in the DMs’ account by cheque or direct electronic transfer. The DMs will withdraw and disburse the money to the tea garden owners to facilitate payment of wages to the workers,” an official said.
It’s a special case where government departments have been permitted to draw cash beyond the stipulated limit of Rs 10,000.
