Stockholm: A Swedish airport has been evacuated after a bag found at the facility showed indications it contained explosives, according to local media reports.
Gothenberg-Landvetter Airport, just outside the southern Swedish city of Gothenberg, has been evacuated as police investigate the suspicious package.
The last flight departing the airport is being held on the tarmac. Speaking to the TT News Agency, Anders Porlieus, the press chief for airport operator Swedavia, said: “We made an announcement for the bag but no one came for it. A scan later showed an indication of explosives.”
Police have reportedly cordoned off an area spanning 200 meters (650ft) around the bag. Göteborgs-Posten reports a heavy police presence at the airport and surrounding areas, with traffic diversions away from the area now in place.
A police spokesperson confirmed to GP that a bomb squad will examine the suspicious bag, but authorities have no knowledge of any specific bomb threat.
Planes will continue to land at the airport as usual, Nyman told Expressen, with passengers told to claim their luggage from a nearby gas station.
