Melbourne: A white SUV car mowed down a number of people in Melbourne on Thursday at a busy intersection near the corners of Flinders and Elizabeth street injuring at least fifteen pedestrians.
Police had arrested the driver of Suzuki SUV along with another man sitting with him. An officer at the scene hinted at terrorist attack but this is yet to be confirmed. Police said the car was travelling at high speed when it collided with the pedestrains waiting at the cross-road during the peak evening hours.
Some of the injured are said to be in a critical condition when police admitted them to hospital. Among the injured was an Indian named Rohit Kaul who is admitted in Alfred Hospital. A heavy police bunch mushroomed the area and blocked pedestrian movement and traffic in the area.
The attack shook the city which was dreaded by a similar car attack in January this year killing six and injuring over 30 people.
