Kolkata: Tightening its grip around Red Road hit and run accused absconding Trinamool leader Mohammad Sohrab and his son Ambia Sohrab, a Kolkata court has served a notice to the duo asking them to surrender and warned them of property confiscation if failed to do so.
As per reports, police on Friday clamped a notice on Mohammad Sohrab’s house on which he and his son Ambia has been mentioned as accused and absconding and have been ordered to surrender before the chief metropolitan magistrate.
Mohammad Sohrab is accused of tampering with evidence and assisting the escape of his son Sambiya Sohrab who had mowed an IAF jawan Abhimanyu Gaud to death in Kolkata’s Red Road on January 13 during a Republic Day parade.
Sambiya, was later arrested and charged with murder. His two friends Shanu alias Shawnawaz Khan and Johny were also arrested. And have been remanded to judicial custody.
The IAF Corporal’s death has stirred a nationwide outcry and the state police earlier reluctant to initiate action against the Sohrab for their political affiliation to the ruling TMC was forced to take action.
The Trinamool Congress also faced severe criticism over the alleged role of one of its leader in the case and dusted lapel off Sohrabs with a statement made by party spokesperson Derek O’ Brienin which the party trifled Sohrab as a minor activist with no significance.
