Supreme Court seeks reply from centre over Land Acquisition Ordinance

New Delhi: On Thursday, the Supreme Court has sought a reply from the Central Government over a plea of farmer’s organization challenging the legality of the re-promulgation of the Land Acquisition Ordinance.

The central government has been asked by a division bench of Justices J S Khekar and Adarsh Kumar Goel to file its response within four weeks to the PIL which has been filed by Delhi Gramin Samaj.

The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) ordinance, 2015 was repromulgated after it lapsed on June 4.

The organization have challenged the re-promulgation of the ordinance terming it as ‘unconstitutional’ besides being a ‘colourful exercise of power’ by the government to ‘usurp’ the law-making powers of the constitution.
