Punjab won is Super Over
Motera: IPL 8 saw one of the most nail bitting matches of the season on Tuesday. Chasing a mammoth total of 191 against Rajasthan, Punjab went into the last over with 14 runs required for victory. Kings Eleven Punjab needed 5 runs of the final delivery of the match. Axar Patel hit the ball to the deep point boundary to gift the cricket lovers of India the first Super over of the tournament.
Batting first in the Super over, Punjab had set a target of 16 runs to Rajasthan Royals who were in a five match winning trot. The ball was handed over to Aussie paceman, Mitchel Johnson against Shane Watson and Faulkner. Watson was knocked off by his national team-man on the very first ball. Although Steven Smith hit a boundary of the no ball, Faulkner was run out by the stunning Bengal wicket keeper Wriddhiman Saha in the very next ball. As RR lost both the wickets, Punjab won the match as per the rule of the Super Over.
Rajasthan Royals lost the match and tasted the first defeat of the season to Preity’s boys. However, Rajasthan Royals will remain at the pole position inspite of the loss suffered in the hands of Punjab.
