Sunderbans to be brought under security blanket


Canning: The Sundarban area is being brought under security blanket by the South 24 Parganas District Police following the attack on tourists by a gang of robbers. The police have asked 45 lodges and resorts to inform the police if any tourist group arrives to stay at the resort. Police will be enhancing the security of the resorts once they get information about the arrival of the tourists.

South 24 Parganas Superintendent of Police, Praveen Tripathi said that the initiative has been undertaken for the security of the tourists. After the Trinamool Government came to power, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had planned to make sunderbans the face of West Bengal tourism.

From Sagar to Namkhana, Patharpratima, Bokkhali, Raichowk, Jharkhali, Kaikhali and Piyali Island will be brought under security scanner. The tourists have been targeted twice in by the miscreants in Sundarban’s Kultuli area. After the Piyali incident, the police will be enhancing the security of the region if necessary.
