Sunday Eden battle is in doubt due to weather threat

Kolkata: Kolkata Knight Riders were forced to practice indoors on Saturday due to rain and thunderstorm in the city as defending champions’ IPL contest against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday at Eden Gardens is also under the weather-threat.

“I don’t know about the forecast but if it’s like this I cannot do much about it. We can’t handle such things. The only thing we can handle is what happens on the field,” Gambhir said about the gloomy conditions outside.

“There’re a lot of things that are not in your hands. Like what happened in the last game. Chasing 177 in 20 overs is far more easier than chasing 118 in 12 overs. It gets tough. But then there are certain things which are not in your control and you should not be thinking about it. I was 100 per cent sure that we would have chased that had it been a 20 over game,” the KKR skipper said ruing the last match loss to SRH by 16 runs.

In fact the local Met office predicted more rain tomorrow and blamed it on a cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand and adjoining South Bengal.

“We expect this will influence tomorrow’s weather as well. There’s rain and thunderstorm forecast for Gangetic West Bengal districts so south Bengal may be affected,” IMD director GC Debanath told PTI.

He however clarified that the forecast is for the city and surrounding areas in the radius of 50 kilometres so it’s difficult to predict whether it will affect the match.

“It can happen anywhere. However the intensity may be less.”
