Kolkata: On Wednesday, eminent scholar and academician, Sugata Marjit has taken over as the interim Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University. Marjit will be serving an interim term of 6 months till a permanent VC is appointed. After taking charge as the VC of CU, Sugata Marjit said that he will try all sorts of measure to restore the image and the academic atmosphere of CU. He will be taking the reigns of the Calcutta University from Suranjan Das, who has taken the charge of JU from Avijit Chatterjee.
It was heard that after the personal interference and request from the West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee herself, Sugata Marjit had given his green signal on taking up the responsibility of the CU Vice Chancellor. The move was confirmed on July 4, by recognised sources. The State Government feels that the standard of CU will surely rise after Marjit takes charge.
