Mumbai:It comes as no surprise that Salman Khan’s latest Eid entertainer, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, has struck the right chords with the public. And this reflected in the box-office collections for the film which has already crossed the 100-crore mark in its first weekend only.
The film had a massive opening on Friday with Rs 27.25 crore in the kitty. The film jumped higher than ever on Saturday, collecting 36.60 crore. With strong word of mouth supporting its run, the Kabir Khan film earned a colossal figure Rs 38.75 crore on Sunday, running to packed houses pan India. The festival of Eid aided collections as well as people thronged to the screens in large numbers to make the most of the weekend.
At the end of the first weekend, Bajrangi Bhaijaan’s total earnings stand at Rs 102.60 crore domestically, making it the biggest opening weekend of 2015 so far, leaving behind Salman Khan’s 2014 Eid release, Kick (Rs 83 crore), as well as 2015’s top earners, ABCD2 (Rs 46.35 crore), Gabbar Is Back (Rs 40 crore) and Tanu Weds Manu Returns (Rs 38.10 crore).
Add to that, Bajrangi Bhaijaan also made it to the top 3 highest grossing weekends of all time, beaten only by Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year (Rs 108.86 crore) and Aamir Khan’s Dhoom:3 (Rs 107.61 crore).
