Subhash Bhowmick Jailed For 3-Yrs

Kolkata: A court in Kolkata has sentenced East Bengal Football Club’s technical director and former footballer Subhash Bhowmick to three years in jail.

The matter dates back to 2005 when Bhowmick was a superintendent in the Central customs and excise department. Misusing his position, Bhowmick had allegedly demanded Rs 4-lakh from a businessman in the city. After bargaining, the deal was settled at Rs 1.5-lakh.

A special CBI court in Kolkata today convicted him for coercion and demanding bribe and sentenced him to three years in jail. Soon after the sentencing, the judge, however, granted him an interim bail.
