Shootout at Raiganj University, Bombs Hurled

Raiganj: Violence gripped Raiganj University on Thursday as rival students group backed by political parties clashed with each other over the ongoing admissions in the institute.

As per reports, clashes erupted between Trinamool backed Trinamool Chatra Parishad (TMCP) and Congress backed Chatra Parishad (CP) in the college campus. Both the groups fired shots and hurled bombs at each other. Manu students are reportedly injured in the incident.

Huge police force rushed to the spot to contain the worsening situation and are forced to lathicharge to disperse the crowd. A section of the teaching staff has complained that some outsiders are responsible for the clash.

On the other hand, CP accused police of shielding TMCP supporters and using brutal force against them. They also accused TMCP of fanning violence. The allegations were however brushed by TMCP.

Education Minister Partha Chatterjee had called the University VC to took stock of the situation, however the details of the conversation is not yet known.

TMCP and CP had clashed with each other earlier on August 10.
