Presidency authorities are completely responsible for the convocation programme not
taking place at the university premises.

The students also pointed out that the convocation programme conducted at Nandan
and not the university premises had no relation with the protests. A huge number of
students harshly criticised the programme being held at Nandan, breaking norms.
They questioned that why was the convocation programme held at somewhere else when
the campus was open.

The convocation programme was supposed to be conducted at the Presidency
University’s Derozio auditorium on Tuesday. But it has been alleged that for the
first time, rules were broken and the programme was held outside the PU due to the
protest by the students.

The students locked down the main gates along with other gates on Monday morning.
Vice-Chancellor Anuradha Lohia, Registrar Debojyoti Konark and other officials were
not allowed to enter. On the lock-down of gates, the students said that they had
said that they will go for a bigger protest if the Hindu hostel is not returned to
them by September 5. Following it, the gates were closed.

The students also said that they were never against the convocation programme. They
claimed that they wanted to sit with the University authorities to solve the issue.
But the dean, registrar and the VC returned their request. Soon after this, they
addressed a press conference where they said that, “The main gate will remain open
for anyone participating in the convocation programme. There is no link between the
convocation programme and their protests. The authorities are responsible for their
own drama.”
