Student Skips Classes For A Day Trip, Drowns In River


Kolkata: A class ten student of a school in Dhakuria, who had skipped school and went for a day trip to Diamond Harbour with a group of friends, got drowned in the river while bathing on Monday afternoon.

Police conducting the search operation could not find Sayan Poddar, 16, a resident of Mukundapur and a student of Andrews High School in Dhakuria, till late in the night.

Police said, on Mnday Sayan along with a classmate and three other teenagers from an adjacent school skipped classes and took a train from Jadavpur station for a day trip to Diamond Harbour. According to the friends, they got down in the river and began bathing when Sayan drowned and could not be seen after a few moments.

The friends came up to the bank for help following which local residents alerted policemen who began a search operation, took the boys to the police station and informed their parents.
