Update: Five people have been detained by police. Education Minister Partha Chatterjee held a press meet and blamed cleverly blamed the student's death on the infighting of Chatra Parishad. Congress called a 12-hour Sabang Bandh on Saturday protesting the murder.
Midnapore: In a barbaric incident a student was beaten to death in a College in West Bengal’s Midnapore district on Friday.
Krishna Prasad Jana, a third year student of Sabang Sajani Kanta Mahavidyalaya, Midnapore, was brutally thrashed by members of Trinamool Chatra Parishad (TMCP), the student wing of ruling Trinamool government in the state, and died of his injuries.
Jana was a member of Congress affiliated Chatra Parishd and the murder was said to be the result of political clash between the rival parties.
As per reports, Krishna Prasad Jana was allegedly attacked by TMCP supporters in his class and was brutally hammered in head. The incident caused panic and other students fled the spot. The teachers too were reluctant to invade the brawl.
Later Jana was taken to a doctor Tapan Bhattacharya, who referred him to Sabang Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
On the other hand, TMCP denied any role in the incident. Sabang MLA Manas Bhuyan after receiving the news has started for the college. The education minister too was informed of the clash.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reacted sharply on the incident and said that the culprits will not be spared.
Tension gripped the college and the area after the incident. The principal of the college Kanailal Paria, over phone said that he has been locked by the miscreants and that the incident was most unfortunate. He demanded strict action against the perpetrators of the crime.
