Kolkata: After convening a meeting at the state secretariat with ministers over
Bagri fire, education minister Partha Chatterjee said that the structural engineers
will be summoned immediately to inspect the condition of the house after the major
fire gutted it.
Partha said that the decision will be finalised after discussing with chief
minister Mamata Banerjee. He informed that the experts will have to submit the
reports on the Bagri building as soon as possible. After this, the forensic reports
are awaited. After examining all reports, decision on the future of the Bagri
building will be taken.
To determine the condition of the Bagri market building, structural engineers will
be recruited. Opinion of building experts will be taken. It was also decided in the
meeting that decision will be taken after examination that will a part of the
building or the entire building will be demolished. The ministers will inform the
CM about the entire thing and based on her instructions, the entire process will be
Partha informed that a forensic investigation in underway over the entire incident.
Apart from that, the Kolkata Police commissioner is monitoring the matter. He
accused the Bargi market businessmen of not following any rules. He further stated
that the businessmen should have followed the rules and also gave strong warning
saying that by considering them as weak as they remain silent, would be the biggest
Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya assured and said that the Bagri market fire will
not have any adverse effect on the medicines. There will be shortage of medicines
as she has spoken to a particular official on this matter.
A top-level meeting was held at Nabanna prior to this which saw the participation
of Partha Chatterjee, Firhad Hakim, Commissioner of Police Rajiv Kumar, Fire
Service DG Jagmohan and other. Before leaving for Germany-Italy, Mamata Banerjee
had constituted a 11-member ministerial special team under Partha Chatterjee.
The committee does not include the Fire Service Minister. The meeting was of this
committee itself on Thursday. Fire service officials, corporation department’s
representatives and police officials were present in the meeting.
