Kolkata: West Bengal Labour Minister Moloy Ghatak on Friday said that the state government has taken several steps to ensure safety and social security of the tea garden workers in the state.
Ghatak was speaking on the motion moved by Left Front legislative party leader Sujan Chakraborty under the rule 185 on the issue of wages of tea garden workers. The motion was defeated in the Assembly.
“The allegation that we have not taken any steps for the benefit of tea garden workers is completely baseless. We have taken several steps to ensure social security of the tea garden workers,” Ghatak said.
While speaking on the motion, state power minister Sovandeb Chatterjee said the TMC government after coming to power in 2011, have increased the wages of the tea garden workers.
“Tea industry is one of the biggest industries of our state. The state is yet to announce a policy for determining the wages of tea garden workers. There is lot of anger among the tea garden workers. The state government should look into the matter,” Sujan Chakraborty said.
