Statue Intolerance: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Statue Vandalised

Jabbalpur: After the statues of Lenin, Periyar, Bhimrao Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi, a statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose has been desecrated in Madhya Pradesh.

After the statues of Lenin, Periyar, Bhimrao Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi, a statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose has been desecrated in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur. As per initial reports, red paint has been splashed on the statue.

On Thursday, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi has been damaged by a local in Kannur, Kerala. The miscreant tried to take the spectacles and garland from Mahatma Gandhi’s statue and run away.

On Wednesday, a statue of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar was destroyed in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut. On the same day, Republic TV had also accessed a video of a statue of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee being desecrated in Kolkata.

Prime Narendra Modi has expressed his strong disapproval of statues being vandalised in parts of the country and spoken to the home minister on the matter. The Prime Minister strongly disapproved the toppling of Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, known as ‘Lenin’, statue in south Tripura and vandalism of social activist and politician E.V. Ramasamy ‘Periyar’ bust in Vellore.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Prime Minister spoke with Minister of Home Affairs Rajnath Singh in this regard and strongly disapproved of such incidents.
