State to appeal for Centre’s help in North Bengal landslide


Siliguri: The state government will be approaching the central government to come to the rescue of the hills of West Bengal which has been devastated by landslides. North Bengal Development Minister Gautam Dev said this on Monday.

Normalcy has started to return to the hills. The landslides have been removed from NH 10 and vehicular movement has started. Relief camps have been set up in Mirik and reliefs are being sent from various organizations to the area.

On the other hand North Bengal development Minister will be holding talks with Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling regarding the flood situation in Dooars.

Speaking on the issue he said that he will be going to meet Sikkim Chief Minister on the directions of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The flood situation has arisen out of excess water being released from the rivers of Sikkim which needs to be solved immediately.
