State Govt Launches ‘Bengalathon 2017’ To Get IT-Based Solutions

Kolkata: To find out solutions to the real-life challenges we face in various fields, the Bengal Government has launched a competition called ‘Bengalathon 2017’. The Bengal Government’s information technology (IT) arm, Webel is a co-organiser of the event.

This hackathon is meant for professionals in IT and related fields, like graphic designers, interface designers, project managers and others. The competing teams have to create a website and an app for each of their projects.

Competition is open in five fields, from which a total of three winners would be selected. They would be awarded at the 2018 Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), to be held in January. The five areas are financial technology (fintech, in short), travel and tourism, last-mile transport (e.g., e-rickshaw or toto), elder care or gerontology and food technology in the unorganised sector.

According to the State IT Minister who inaugurated the competition on November 3, with the incentives being showered on IT entrepreneurship, Bengal is gradually becoming a major hub for innovation.
