Gulf: Fans were thrown to the ground after a glass barrier gave way at this evening’s Gulf Cup football final.
The barrier collapsed in the section holding Omani fans at the Jaber Stadium in Kuwait during the 23rd Gulf Cup final. According to the English language Arab Times, at least 30 people were injured. The incident came during the dramatic climax of this year’s Gulf Cup football championship.
A glass barricade shattered, shown in video footage that captured the incident, when Omani fans reportedly rushed to greet their national team players, who had approached the stands.
Some of the injured are said to have been rushed to the Farwaniya hospital. Oman defeated UAE 5-4 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in Jaber International Stadium, Kuwait City. It was only Oman’s second ever championship in the tournament.
