Sri Lankan Navy arrests 86 Indian fishermen

Rameswaram: Three fishermen have been injured when they were allegedly attacked by the personnel of the Sri Lankan navy off the coast of Katchatheevu.

Bottles were thrown and stones were pelted at the fishermen and the fishing nets of at least five boats were destroyed according to Fishermen’s Association leader Sagayan.

A group of about 2,300 fishermen had put out to sea on Saturday from Rameswaram  in 565 boats. The fishermen who were afraid of further attacks returned to shore without any catch, he said.
