Sri Lanka’s New IGP To Rename Police Department

Colombo: Sri Lanka’s new Inspector General of Police(IGP) Pujitha Jayasundera has said that the Police Department will be renamed as the Sri Lanka Police.

Addressing a media briefing at the Police Headquarters, the police chief said appropriate changes will be made in the force to earn the public’s trust again,reports Lanka Page.

IGP Jayasundera said he plans to launch a news program to keep the public informed and plans to launch a community police concept from the village level.

He also said that he plans to improve the rate of resolving crimes and pay more attention to road safety. Streamlined action to fight drugs and gangs will also be initiated, he said.

Jayasundera assumed formal charge of his post on April 20.
