Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping today greeted Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on the nation’s 67th anniversary of independence. He said the ties between the two countries will become stronger in future.
In his message to Srisena he said that both the countries have remained unshakable and will be growing firm with each passing day.
Recalling his last visit to the island, the Chinese president said that he was extremely overwhelmed by the sentiments of the Sri Lankan people and their friendship towards the Chinese.
Sri Lanka moved closer to China under Rajapaksa’s rule during which Beijing made billions of dollars of strategic investments including port projects.
After assuming power, Srisena and Prime Minister Wickaramasinghe said that the new government will be following a balanced foreign policy and will be maintaining friendly realtions with India, China and the US.
