Kolkata: The countdown of hours has begun in Balurghat to welcome the Indian cricket icon and Bengal’s heart-throb, Sourav Ganguly, on Saturday.
The former Indian cricket skipper will be arriving in Balurghat to inaugurate his own statue at 11am in the Balurghat Stadium’s Vikas Ground.
The District Sports Association will be conducting the programme tomorrow. As a tribute to Ganguly, an 8-ft tall fibre full length statue has been made by a Susanta Paul, a reputed artisan from Siliguri. According to a source, the statue has reached Balurghat and cost around Rs 7 lakhs.
Balurghat has been fully decorated with Dada’s banners and hoardings on the route that his convoy will be taking to give him a warm welcome.
District police superintendent Prasun Banerjee has stated that tight security arrangements have been made to ensure that the event goes seamlessly.
