New Delhi: Citing 'grave disorder', Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has suspended 25 members of the Congress for five days from the Parliament. Mahajan's action came after repeated warnings to the main opposition party's lawmakers not to carry placards and wear black bands in protest to the House. Suspended MPs include Abhijit Mukherjee, Ravneet Singh,BN Chandrappa, Abu Hasem Khan,Sushmita Dev,R Dhruvanarayana.

The Congress has continuously disrupted both houses every day since the monsoon session of parliament began. Congress president Sonia Gandhi made it clear at a meeting of her party MPs today that the protests would go on till three top BJP leaders caught in controversies are removed. She has termed the day as a Black Day in the history of Democracy.

In connection to the decision of Sumitra Mahajan, TMC MP Sudip Bandopadhyay requested her to take a more lenient view, but the Speaker did not relent. She also adjourned the House for the day. In fact, Kalyan Bandyopadhyay said that TMC will show solidarity towards Congress and will boycott the Lok Sabha for the next 5 days.
